Entrepreneur or Corporate Captive?

Entrepreneur or Corporate Captive?

I’m one of those people who has been blessed and held capture by Corporate America. I’m blessed in the fact that working for various Corporations has allowed me to live a middle class lifestyle. I’m held captive by the fact that even though I know I’m destined to be a successful entrepreneur, I feel somewhat bound to the practical benefits that Corporate America provides. Necessary items such as medical and retirement benefits seem like shoulder weights when you consider these options as an Entrepreneur. Not only are the costs higher, but the risks are far greater. A standard bi-weekly pay check now becomes a wavering mix of unpredictable income. A steady stream of work becomes an influx of potential clients. Top that off with the “fear of failure” and it becomes almost impossible to remain steadfast in your entrepreneurial endeavors.

So, how do you release yourself from Corporate Captivity to pursue your entrepreneurial dreams? I wish I had an easy answer, but it’s a daily struggle. You have to make incremental steps that support your dream.

•Start with a vision of your business venture. You can only achieve what you believe.
•Equip yourself with the necessary knowledge and skills to execute your business.
•Network with a variety of individuals and subject matter experts to gain insight, wisdom and experience that can enhance your business.
•Be willing to do the work even when you don’t feel like it. Successful people push themselves beyond normal work routines. You have to be willing to work hard now and play later. The good news is that because you are doing something that’s aligned to your passions, what may seem like extra work to some, will actually bring you a great deal of personal satisfaction.
•Surround yourself with supportive and encouraging people. There will be times when you will become discouraged in your journey to entrepreneurship. Having others to motivate and encourage you will help to sustain you when you want to give up.
•Pray without ceasing. You will need God in every step of your journey.
